My Better Half's Christmas Card

For the last 3years I've given my missus a Christmas Picture. Below is this years effort, which celebrates her getting away from the misery of R.B.S and also celebrates her booty :)

What should have taken me a few hours, turned into about 32hrs, because of 20+ computer crashes, a full re-format and me losing all my music in the process. I would have liked more time for the title, but it was nearly Christmas Day!

Merry Christmas

These are my first two ever oil (test) pictures. They are both fairly small and both done with water based oils.
Thanks for looking.

In Between Worlds...

Just started a Tattoo apprenticeship and right now my mind feels like a spilt water melon. I'm trying to find a balance between doing personal work (style) and developing a style/work flow for tattooing. Thats why I haven't touched this blog in a while.

This image was influenced by the tattoo designs of sailor Jerry
and it was also a point of practise for testing out these little bad boys, that I've had sitting around for far to long These pencils, although I've only used them the once, are brilliant, I'm really looking forward to doing more work with them.

Ye Go Down Wid Da Crabs:

I was suppose to add a written scroll along the bottom, I may do that at a later date. Thanks for looking.

A Change Is A' Comin...

I'm currently halfway through setting up a Website/Studio were things are going start changing for me. I feel the last few years have given me enough practise and I'm now finally settled within my working materials and my direction. This Studio/Web Page won't just have random workings and practises like this Blog has been plastered with. This new page will see me really focus on key areas of personal interest for me. My work will now be totally focused driven, with purpose and specific goals to aim for. I will still use this Blog for random practises and workings, but my uploads wont be as frequent. My future work will be spread across Comic Book Work, Editorial Illustrations, Urban Design (bmxing, long boarding, surfing, skateboarding) I'll also be designing Tattoo's based upon Traditional Japanese Prints and the early Western Style Tattoo's, that were common place with the Sailors of that era.
If you've followed me on this Blog, please be sure to follow my new site when it's finished, cheers

Wanted to create a really punchy and vibrant piece of the Turtles, here is that process. Cheers

Placement Rough:

Final: I gave it a full on, in your face paint job. I was trying to capture some of that feeling I had for the Ninja's back in the day.

Heat = low work flow :(

Haven't drawen a thing in about 3-weeks, due to the U.K thinking it's in the fucking Med! Anyhow, today was cooler (thank christ) and this Raph pic broke my unwanted absence.

Cartridge PAPER...where have you been all this time?

Just started using cartridge paper and I'm fucking loving it. Just did these Street Fighter pieces for some practise. It's early doors, but this paper is finally letting me ink in the same way that I draw, it seems to capture the same energy :)

A Last Minute Father's Day Card.

I'd had this idea for a Fathers Day card for a long time, but only on the morning of such a day, did I bother to do anything about it!!! My old man seemed to like it though and that was the main thing. The first image was on the front of the card and the second inside. I was going to do VAder without his helmet on the inner page, but with rushing to finish, I forgot. Cheers

Leeds Thought Bubble (getting my shit together)

Ok, so I'm going to my first ever con in Nov, but I'm also exhibiting there. Therefore, I need to get my shit together and quickly!

Of all the idea's and stories that I put together and then bury away, deep within my overflowing story draw. This particular idea resonates with me the strongest and is filled with enough crazy characters and places that it will make me actually reach the finish line! (for once)

I wont bore you with all the details, but this image is a concept poster piece for the comic. The guy wielding the golden axe is Oarlan and he basically an angry teenager with plenty of issues he needs to resolve and plenty of lives lesson's to learn. But whilst doing all this boring stuff he gets to smash up plenty of Robot's and hacks up many a' Monster. (I hear the screen writer's guild calling me) ;)

Dredd in a 1980's music video

A friend of mine wanted to see me draw Dredd. I normally give Dredd a wide birth because he has way to much going on in the clothing department (that frigging eagle!!!) Little did I know when drawing this, that it would turn out like an 80's music video :)

Working Process: The Adventures of Young Sinbad (thumbs up ;)

Blade vs Nosferatu

Avengers may be decent and Thor is even better. But, there is only one comic book to film franchise for me and that's Blade 1 and 2

(fuck you 3, I just pretent that one doesn't exist, just like Alien 4)

This was a bit of a colour challenge in the end, but I think I've managed to wrestle them all together.

Think I prefer this version, the white just gives a clearer impact:

To The Late Ray Harryhausen

Just before the death of Ray Harryhausen, I ordered the Sinbad collection and Clash of the Titans on DVD. (why I didn't already have these masterpieces, I don't know) The characters and scenarios of these films mixed with Rays visual effect's, just totally blew me away as a kid and to be honest with you, after watching them all again, they still do. Sadly, Ray died the following week and for all the people out there, who's childhood, was made all the more richer by Ray's magic, it was a shit piece of news to hear.

Inspired by the palette from The Golden Voyage Of Sinbad:

I had this little idea pop into my head. In respect to the Might Harryhausen (R.I.P)

Having a Crayon day today

Still testing a few colour variations, using sketchs made yesterday in work.

Sunday Sketch's (whilst sat in work)

A few scribbles whilst I was sat in work over the weekend. I've put some colour over the Doc Savage piece as I wanted to test a little theory out. Cheers

IRONMAN sketch with colour

Haven't drawn for a fair while, so spent the day scribbling and remembering how to hold a pen!

Streets of Rage 2

I've been playing Streets of Rage 2 recently and was surprised how well It held up. Sometimes your love for old games can take a bit of a kicking when you actually realise it wasn't that good, this was quite the exception. You gott'a love dem apples and drain pipes though!

2 Hour Comic Page...

Well, I say 2 Hours, with me smudging the ink, more like 2 and a half hours. Anyways, stupid idea done in a stupid time bracket, by a stupid person. Thanks for looking.

The Darkman

Been watching a lot of films lately hence some poster fun. Drawn whilst in work, coloured back at Grey skull. Cheers

I'm in a state of limbo at the minute in terms of producing artwork. So, whilst I sat slumped at my desk today, I found my hand wondering across the page and roughing out some Akira fan-art. I haven't a clue why I was started doing Akira. But, I thought why not, it was better than sitting there stirring into the abyss.

Thanks for looking ( I can see me putting colour on this soon, so have a nosey back in the near future, for some Technicolor splender)

As if by magic...

Tuesday, 5 February 2013

When I read that the mighty 2000AD were taking Fan-Art piece as part of a competition, I knew I had to get involved. The main problem though...choosing which character to have a blast with!

There are just so many fantastic characters that 2000AD have had plastered over there pages, the decision was a headache. Some of there characters have room to play with and others are so iconic, that you really have to stay within the lines. The character that I finally settled on (for me) is iconic and you really cant do to much with him. But, I just had to chose Mr Pineapples, for the simple fact that when I first laid eyes on him as a kid, I nearly pissed my pants with his utter coolness.

Derek Danger (fan-art)

I love Warwick Johnson Cadwell's work

And only recently I came across the extremely talented Robert M Ball

So, you can imagine my delight when they teamed up and created the one and only (ginger) bad-ass

Derek Danger

I just had to do some Fan-Art. After all, there aren't many folks us gingers can look up to... till now!

Astro Boy (70's colours)

Here is my first shot at a video/working process. Though it came about unintentionally, so it's all a bit of a mess! I've always loved how the comics from the 60's/70's were coloured, even down to the way in which the printing plates would overlap the line-work. So, I went for a little a modern take on that look.

Thanks for looking.

P.s probably best watching this on YouTube as it's friggin tiny on here!

Pen and Paper (testing)

It's early days, but I think 2013 (artistically speaking) is going to be a good year. I'm finally through with my Willie Fogg adventure in materials (thank fuck!) I honestly dont think there isn't a Pen or Brush out there that I havent given a go. Now that I'm finally settled with using the good old trusty Uni-Ball 157 pen, I can now start my adventures in paper...

These picture's where done using Strathmore Bristol 300 series (vellum surface)

With the paper having a texture to it, it drags the ink from the pen beautifully and it then holds that line. The only down side, so far, is in the scanning of such paper. It takes a lot more fiddling to get right, as the texture coming through is tricky to balance. But, it's early days, so I may work that out.

On the images themselves. Both are a continuation of my philosophy, fast as you can, as brave as you can and as honest as you can! To this extent, both fit the bill. Though I slowed down a little on Robin as I really liked how I captured his face. Thinking like this, then sparked off the following chain reaction.

I really like where this is going=Oh SHIT=I may fuck it up= SLOw down...

Anyway, thanks for having a nosey, now sod off and close the gate!
